Tristan stood huddled next to the gate, on the side of the winding road that lead out of the school. It was nearing 11pm, so not only was it so dark he couldn't see anyone coming or going, it was also freezing. He hunched in closer to himself, trying to stay warm in his leather jacket, jeans and boots as his breath materialized before him with each breath he took. 13 years in sunny California still hadn't been beaten out of him with 3 St. Louis winters. It was fucking cold. At least it's not snowing he thought to himself. He glanced at his motorcycle parked on the road a few feet away and wondered if he'd be able to start it again... Only if Adriana shows up soon. The engine was still slightly warm but wouldn't stay that way for long.
Tristan pulled out his phone for the umpteenth time it felt like. He'd left her a message on her phone as he was leaving his dorm room. He hadn't really gotten a reply message, but he'd left on good faith, regardless.
It had been 20 minutes since he'd called her, and he knew girls took forever getting ready especially on such short notice, but he was beginning to feel stupid. Tristan sucked his teeth as he glanced backward at the locked gate, a surge of emotions falling over him. What was he doing here, starting something with Adriana again? Didn't he like Misha? But he hadn't seen Misha in a long time...Maybe she was avoiding him.
Why not just go out with Adriana? It was a helluva lot safer than putting himself out on the line with some girl he barely knew. He felt cold for a moment for calculating things that way. Stop...Misha's probably not interested in me anyway... I just want to have fun tonight.
He smiled to himself. He would have fun tonight. Wherever he and Adriana decided to go. He glanced back toward the school, staring anxiously into the darkness. If she did show up those locked gates wouldn't keep him in. He crossed his fingers in the pocket of his jacket.
Just then, Tristan heard the sound of ice crunching beneath someone's feet. He froze where he was, for a brief instant the idea of a teacher finding him on school grounds when he wasn't supposed to be flashing through his mind before he relaxed as the figure came closer and became more clear. He smiled in relief. "Hey..." Words couldn't express how happy he was that she was there. He just needed something familiar after the rough week he'd been having.

Tristan laughed to himself softly, wondering how and why he was back here. But here he was, leaving a message on her phone, falling right back into his old self. "...I wanna see you again," he said softly, as though he were actually talking to Adriana herself. He paused for another couple of moments, choosing his words carefully. "I'll be at the gate. Let's go out."
