x __________________________________ We are the lost The ones forgotten And this time The future is ours It's in our handsLola walked in to the library, greeting the librarian kindly. The librarian greeted her back in the same manner, and Lola walked to the back of the library to her usual spot. She took of her sweater, revealing a baby pink polo shirt underneath with a baby blue necklace hanging from her neck. She set her messenger bag down on a chair and put the sweater over it, and went to search for some books to check out.
Lola had always loved to read. Ever since kindergarten, when they learned words like 'the' and 'as', she had loved to read. She would have her mother or father bring her to the public library every week until she was allowed to walk there on her own. Sometimes, she'd go through ten books a week, depending on how large the novel was. She walked through the aisles of the library, her eyes scanning the titles for one that would catch her eye. As she went along, she grabbed books and piled them in her arms until she had enough and couldn't see in front of her.
Carefully, Lola walked back to her table, balancing the books in her arms. She set them down carefully on the tabletop, letting out a breath. She sat down, moving her sweater and her bag on top of the table. She looked at the books she had picked out, choosing one from the middle of the stack and began to read. About an hour later she was at the middle of the book. She went to turn the page when she suddenly grunted in pain. A headache - no, a migraine. She sighed and rummaged through her bag looking for aspirin. She had forgotten it in her dorm room on the dresser. She sighed, resting her elbows on the table and rubbing her temples.

Aimee slowly trudged into the library. She was new to this school and it was so big, she didn't know where to start. Aimee pulled her purse closer to her and took a deep breath as she walked up to the librarian. She needed to get some books for her class, and so the front office sent her here. The librarian looked old and decrepit, like if a gust of wind was to blow by she would fly away with the wind. Not really listening to her though, Aimee followed along the rows of books and held her arms out as she placed book after book on them. By the time she was done Aimee was holding somewhere around twleve different books, that all have a page count of somewhere around 500, in other words, it was HEAVY! "Do I really need all of this?" Aimee asked, but the librarian was already walking back to her desk. She hadn't heard her.
Shrugging, she turned and headed to a table with a girl sitting on the other side. She was slowly rubbing her temples and had her elbows resting on the table. Beside her a book was laying open, she was about halfway through it. "Um, hello? Do you mind if I sit here?" Aimee asked almost pleadingly, the books were killing her arms. She put the books on the table to give her arms a rest and rubbed them to get the circulation flowing in her arms again. As she was rubbing she looked down at the girl and saw her head was killing her. "Here," Aimee started to say as she rummaged through her purse, "Take this, it'll make you feel better." She said handing an aspirin to her.

The migraine was killing her. It was that stupid scar Lola had above her eyebrow from running into a door frame when she was younger. Ever since then, she'd get temporary memory loss and terrible headaches. One thing she always remembered, though, was how many band-aids she had used for various cuts and bruises, and how at times her dad would complain about it. Still, she'd run into things constantly. Why'd she have to be such a klutz? She was always tripping over or running into something. Goes to show how much attention she paid to things around - and in front - of her.
Her headache was subsiding very, very slowly. "As slow as sucking shit through a straw," her father had said once. Lola laughed softly and then grimaced, the pain in her head spiking up again. "This sucks," she muttered to herself as she continued to run her temples. Of course, when she needed her aspirin the most she didn't have, and then when she didn't need it, it was always there. Because that made so much sense.
Lola was about to stick a bookmark in the book when she heard someone ask if they could sit. She glanced up, a new ounce of pain striking her brain. Why couldn't it just go away? "Yeah, of course," she said as loud as the pain would permit her. She rubbed her temples again, narrowing her eyes slightly to ease the pain. She looked up again as the girl offered her some aspirin. Relief was clearly shown on Lola's face. "Oh, thank you so much," she said as she retrieved a water bottle from her messenger bag and opened it. She popped the pills in her her mouth and took a swig of water, feeling them go down her throat. She let out a breath, knowing that soon her pain would be gone. "Really, thank you. I needed that." She offered the girl a polite smile. "I'm Lola."

Aimee watched as the girl took out a water bottle from her purse while thinking her for the pills. Aimee smiled as she took them and popped them into her mouth. The girl thanked her again and said her name was Lola. "I'm Aimee," she said sitting down in the chair next to Lola and slowly pushing her books over to the side of the table. Aimee took a deep breath as she looked over the huge pile of books. "They're trying to kill us here." She said smiling at Lola.
It was nice and quiet in the library and this morning little confrontation with Addison had left Aimee in a trying to make friends mode instead of fight or flight mode. She didn't want to make enemies here, but she guessed it was too late for that now. Aimee looked over the book Lola was reading and back at Lola. "So, what are you reading?" She asked trying to forget the whole Addison situation. Her face was trying not to betray her inner sadness, but her eyes were always dead giveaways.

Lola tightened the cap on her water bottle after one more sip and placed it back in her bag. In exchange, she took out one of the many bookmarks she had, and placed it in the book. She smiled at the girl. "Pleasure to meet you, Aimee. It's nice to meet someone who doesn't want to rip your head off for this or that." She smiled again. "It's alright though. People only hate because they're jealous," she half-joked. It was true. She knew a few girls hated her for something, but she wasn't exactly sure about the others. But hey, that's high school for you. And when you mix high school drama with supernatural powers, you get disaster and more hatred, she had come to realize.
She laughed softly at Aimee's comments about the books. Already Lola could feel her headache fade away. Thank the Heavens for Aimee and her aspirin. "Well, not kill us per se, but.... yeah, yeah, they're trying to kill us." She gave an amused grin and gave a soft sigh. She looked at the cover of the book she was reading, for a moment forgetting about it. "I am reading Strangers in Death, by Nora Roberts. My mom read it and said it was good, so when I saw it here, I decided it'd give me something to talk about in my next letter home." She glanced over at Aimee's stack of books. "How many classes are you taking? I don't even have that many books in my dorm."

"Well most of three of these are ones I want to read and the other nine for my classes. I'm taking an extra science class so yeah." Aimee said smiling sheepishly at Lola. She was really trying to get in as many classes especially in science as she could before she went off to college. She always wanted to become a doctor, and maybe find a cure for getting a person out of a come. Aimee snapped out of her little trip down of her future and quickly realized she probably seemed very spacey to Lola. "Sorry, I space out pretty easily." Aimee said smiling at Lola sheepishly again.
Looking at the book Lola was reading Aimee though where she had heard the name before, but couldn't put her finger on it and then heard her say how Aimee shouldn't worry about what others thought of her, they were only jealous. She looked back down at the table and back up at Lola trying not to look mopey. "Is it really that easy to tell that I've had a bad day?" She asked giggling slightly at how easily read she was. Sometimes she would even find herself looking sulkily and dreary when she really wasn't feeling like it. "My emotions really have control over me huh?" She said smiling genuinly this time.

Lola looked over at Aimee's stack of books again, seeing a familiar title in the three books. "Oh, I've read that one!" she said with a smile. "It's really good." She paused and blinked for a moment, then gave a short chuckle. "Sorry. Just that I should point that out. And science is a very nice class to be taking, you'll love it. I did... except I failed it." She grinned and shivered, goosebumps popping up on her arms. She grabbed her sweater and slipped it on, feeling warmer as soon as the soft material touched her skin. "So, I probably could help you in every other subject aside from that. But since you enjoy it, then you shouldn't have a problem. You'll like the teacher as well."
Lola smiled kindly at Aimee. "Don't worry about the whole spacing out thing, we all have our days." Especially me, she thought. She would find herself just going through the motions of everyday activities, like taking a shower, getting dressed, going to class, etc. Like there was no emotion or feeling behind these activities, like she was a robot. Sometimes it could go on for days, other times just a few minutes. But she always felt funny afterward, no matter how long she was out of it. Her smile faltered slightly as she came back from her reverie. It regained it's strength at Aimee's words. "Well, not really," she admitted. "But there was something in your expression. Would you like to talk about it?"

"Well, I guess so." Aimee said thinking about it. It might make her feel better and she was really down from all of the stuff that had happened lately. "Well, see I was really mad today because my friend sent me a text saying my boyfriend who I had dated, but had to break up with since I was moving, is going out with my best friend. The worst part was that he was just doing it to get back at me, he had heard from someone that I apparently was already dating some guy as soon as I got here and I'm not." Aimee said looking at Lola and then fiddling with her fingers for a moment before continuing on.
"I had run into the bathroom to just get away, I don't know. It seemed like a good idea at the time and then a girl named Addison walked in. See, when I get mad, I have some issues on controling my powers and so I normally just want to be alone so I can focus on not losing control over them. But Addison had decided to catch me on a bad day and tried to cheer me up. Addison and me both just did some certian things that apparently irked each other and it just got into this whole big mess." Amiee said all of this very carefully and in a clear voice. The entire time her hands were in her lap and her fingers fiddled with one another as she spoke.
Aimee took a deep breath and continued talking. "It had gotten so out of hand that I just couldn't hold my powers back anymore. It was really just a senseless argument over nothing, but it turned into something pretty quick. So, I lost control of my powers and had fireballs shooting out of my hand and she started levitating stuff and I shot a fireball at a trash can and she threw a sink and it was just really bad. In the end though she ran to a classroom and I ranaway to the lake trying to let off some steam." Aimee took a deep breath and slowly let it out as she looked up at Lola praying that she didn't hate her now too. That was the last thing she needed.

Lola listened with the utmost attention, her expression remaining neutral. It was the least she could do, the girl had come and 'rescued' (in loss of a better term) her from her migraine. As she lisented to Aimee speak of her rather terrible day Lola compared her own past situations to Aimee's current one. In her freshmn year, Lola had this really good friend that she told everything to. When she told her friend about a major crush she had on a speedster, the girl went behind Lola's back and asked him out. A day after they had a falling out, and Lola was unable to control herself and her power. Her friend being a pyrokinetic and Lola herself being an electrokinetic, it wasn't pretty. In result, they both almost got expelled, which would have been a major screw-up with Lola's parents. She knew then that she shouldn't trust anyone. Ever since that dreadful day, Lola has not forgiven her now ex-friend, and probably never will.
Lola didn't interrupt once, although she thought about her own situtions. She noticed Aimee fidgeting her fingers in her lap, and presumed that it was a nervous tendency sort of thing. When she finished, she looked up at Lola. "Wow. I hope you guys work something out," she said, genuinely meaning every word she said. "And if there's anything I can do to help, let me know. If you ever just need to talk about something, I'm here. And I'm not lying. I'll be right here, in the library, at this table, just chilling." She smiled, trying to lighten Aimee's mood.

"Thanks, I think the best way for anyone to help me at this point is just to be there for me. I'm glad that we met, I feel like ten times better now that we got to talk." She said smiling up at Lola. Aimee had had other encounters like this one with a few other girls, but they were always sorted out in the end, it was actually normally all sorted out in a day. Life was tough, and adding teenagers with powers into a high school was just asking for trouble. Sadly, Aimee had been the one to find it. At least it seemed like things were starting to look up. At least she had Lola on her side now.
"Just so you know, if you ever need me I'm here to. Just find me at a desk with my huge pile of books next to me." Aimee said laughing and smiling up at Lola. She seemed a little off a the moment, like she was thinking of her own little histroy with things like this. She guessed everyone had their own little problems every now and then. Well, at least she was away from it for now and she decided to go with how Lola was trying to lighten the mood. "So, what power do you have? I'm a pyrokinetic." Aimee said smiling hoping that this would be able to get bothe of their mind off of whatever was going on this moment. If she wanted to talk though, Aimee would be all ears for that too.

Lola smiled brightly. Not many people have said that they were glad to have met her, courtesy of rumors and lies that had been spread around. She was somewhat surprised that Aimee hadn't heard any of the rumors, and if she had, then she apparently wasn't affected by them. "Glad I could help with that," she said, smiling again as she put her hair up in a messy bun. "Anytime you need to talk. I'll be here at this table. Like I said." She chuckled. "Oh, and if you ever need me to beat someone up, you're damn straight I will," she with a little laugh. She had said it as a joke, but only meant it to a certain extent. If anyone of her friends needed her, she wouldn't think twice about it. She'd jump on them like a tiger. Tiger with electricity running through her veins, of course.
She smiled kindly at Aimee as she said she'd be there for Lola if she needed it. She got to thinking about how many people would actually be there if she needed them - she didn't have to think hard. Aside from her mother and father, who were umpteen miles away in Boston, there really wasn't anyone else. There was her cousin Grace, and now Aimee. Two people. But then again, two people was all she really needed, she realized. She didn't need five or eight or sixteen. Two was just enough for her. "Thank you. Just look for the blond girl with a huge stack of books piled around her. Got it." She laughed lightly. When Aimee said her power, she thought of that time in freshman year again and hoped that they wouldn't get into a fight like that. Or any fight for that matter. "Oh, I'm an electrokinetic," she replied. "Together we can do wonders." She laughed again.

Aimee was happy that she was making Lola feel better. She meant it when she had told how she would always be there for her. Then she heard Lola say that she happy she could help her with that and told her where to find if needed again. "I'm glad that your not to hard of a person to find like some other people I know." Aimee said smiling at Lola as she continued to say how she would beat anyone's ass who tried to mess with her. This instantly brought a smile to her face.
"I can see us now. Sitting in the principals office, our hair and stuff all messed up from a fight, and me and you sitting there saying 'damn, that was fun!'" Aimee said laughing along with Lola, she was really starting to get along with her. Then Aimee took in her thanking her for being there for her and she just smiled and said no problem, it really wasn't. She was always happy to be of service to other people and for people to confide in her. It always gave Aimee the notion that people did need her every now and then in thier life as she needed them in hers.
The last bit was Lola saying she was a electrokinetic and what wonders they could do together with their powers. Devious thoughts started to worm their ways into Aimee's mind, but she just shrugged it off and looked back at Lola giggling at her comment. She didn't really feel like getting in anymore trouble for now, and lightshows filled with fire and electricity probably weren't allowed on school grounds. "That's cool, Aimee said nodding her head thinking of what being an electrokinetic would be like, So, what subskill have you specialized in? Aimee asked curiously as she slowly skimmed her eyes over her stack of books.
