Another normal afternoon at the academy. Students ran down the halls, pushing and charging down the halls, using their powers to get to class on time. The school was so large that sometimes it was hard to get to class on time...especially when everyone had pit stops on the way, kissing their significant others, stopping at lockers, chatting with friends, gossiping about enemies, or just trying to be late for class. Josh was among these students. Just another normal day of classes, or was something more in store?
Josh clattered down the hallway, he wasn't the pushy type but not the patient type either. He squeaked by a group of techies and pushed through a small group of guys talking about football. Normally Josh would of stopped but he wasn't about to be late to class. As Josh approached his locker he saw a girl in the corner of his eye, one who he knew very well...he had a crush on her forever now. He kept her name out of his head as their were surely mind readers lurking about waiting for their next piece of gossip.
Josh sighed heavily with a small smile on his face, he made brief eye contact with her but then looked back towards his locker. Josh reached through his locker and felt around for his control class text book and his economics book. One by one he pulled out books for all five of his classes. With his power concentration class, math, English, chemistry, and control class books balanced on his forearms and in his hands he pushed the wrong books through his locker. Josh couldn't lie, he so loved his sub power.

Theresa was going to be late. So late, that her teachers would probably hang her by her ankles from the ceiling in the cellar. All right, so that was a little bit of an exaggeration, but that’s how Theresa was sometimes. And now seemed to be one of those times.
She would have been pushing people out of the way the way so many others were, but she had learned long ago that turning into a big and fast feline worked much better. Other kids were using their power, why shouldn’t she? Maybe none of them were turning into animals in the halls but that didn’t mean she couldn’t. Besides, she could run faster as a Cheetah, and the kids were giving her plenty of room to move.
Theresa was still in cheetah form when she reached her locker, though it only took a few seconds before she was human again. “Hey,” She said to a boy about her age at the locker next to hers. She tried to open her locker. Then tried again. Then tried for a third time. It wasn’t until she put the combination in the fourth time that the metal door finally slid open. “Late to class?” she asked casually, as if she hadn’t just gone from cheetah to human in the blink of an eye. Well, maybe not that fast.
She checked her reflection in the mirror that hung on her locker door, swearing at her hair color. Theresa ran her hand through the blond mess, adding the red highlights that had vanished when she turned cheetah. She still had to work on maintaining her changed appearance from form to form. Sometimes she could do it, sometimes she couldn’t.

Josh had talked to the girl next to him a few times, normally he was gone by the time she got to her locker but he was running rather late. At this point he didn't really care how late he was, he would be in trouble either way.
"Hey." Josh replied as he glared at his locker, it was about to happen and he knew it already. As his books came pouring out of his locker he caught them all with his hands and threw them back in, with out unlocking it as normal. Josh didn't even really know his locker number., he could just use his sub power to get things out...even though once he got what he needed out, everything always wanted to fall out. Josh tryed to concentrate on his locker, he felt like it was shut now, nothing was coming back out. He was rather use to all of this since he was very powerful, possibly the most powerful fader in the school, but he had a very libit lack of control that always seemed to get the better of him.
Josh replied swiftly "Yeah probably, doesn't matter much now." he gave a small half smile. Josh would probably just use his powers to walk into class unseen and sit down like he had been there the whole time. He had done it many times before, and it worked. [/center]

Theresa groaned, looking at the book in her arms. “I really gotta get better at telling the difference between my books.” She reopened her locker, this time only having to try twice. She threw the book in her arms back in the little metal rectangle, searching through the mess to find the right one.
Well, she thought, unable to help herself, at least my locker isn’t throwing up on me/ She giggled unintentionally as he fought with his books. It wasn’t the first fader she had seen with that problem. Actually, he was one of the many. “Sorry, I’m not laughing at you, promise.” All right, so she was a little bit, but he didn’t have to know that. “Actually, I have control problems too. Ever been 20 feet under water and suddenly you’re not a fish anymore?” She looked over to him, smirking as she realized what she had asked. “No, you probably haven’t.”
Actually, she was pretty sure that no one in the school had had that problem. She had yet to meet another shifter, let alone another animorph.
“Yeah, it probably doesn’t matter, you’re right,” Theresa agreed. She ursed her lips, thinking for a minute before adding, “You know what?” She slammed the door of her locker as she spoke, “I don’t think I’ll go to class today.” She smiled, proud of herself for thinking up that solution. After a few seconds of thought, she sighed, her shoulders sinking slightly as she reopened the door. “No, I missed class the other day, I have to go today. If it was a different class, maybe I could get away with it. Then again…” Theresa paused in entering her combination, “I missed one, what could one more hurt, right?” She turned to the other boy, asking his opinion on the situation. [/blockquote]

Josh lightly watched his locker, he was rather paranoid even though he had felt his locker lock in with his powers. Josh had unbelievable power, some teachers even thought he would have 'complete power limit' sometimes before he was out of high school. He didn't know a lot of other faders, and the ones he did know he seemed to stay away from them. All besides for Misha of course, they were pretty close.
Josh knew the girl was luaghing at him but didn't care much. After all she didn't know him and he wasn't sure of her powers. She didn't know that any time he was nervous or scared he faded till no one could see him. And he wasn't about to fight with her over it. Josh was in a very bad mood on this certain day. He had wanted to ask Felicity to the dance forever now but he was way to shy. He hoped that no one beat him to it. Maybe he would get lucky and see her there.
As he listened blankly to her explain her absents from classes he nodded. "Yeah...you should probably just go...I dunno though, I have only skipped class twice this year so far..." Josh was being truthful. He had skipped his control class twice this year. In his eyes the classes did nothing for him. He knew he needed control, and he couldn't hide the fact that he wanted it...but he didn't have it and that was just the way it was going to be....if you asked him that is.
Josh didn't normally talk to random people in random places like this. At this point he would talk for whatever amount of time. He knew he could sneak into class.

Tristan made his way down the halls, no books in hand nor backpack on his shoulder. No, he didn't care about his last class. What he was doing now was far more important. In his hands he held a stack of neon green flyers, with thumbtacks lining the rows of his fingers in his left hand, each point pointed away from him. Each time he passed a bulletin board in the halls, he would pause to stick a flyer up. His headphones were blasting with Shackler's Revenge and was almost clearly audible to anyone who got close enough to him. The cord from his headphones trailed off into the pocket of his hoodie, disappearing within it.
He was deliberately doing this the slow way, not only because he could but because it was probably necessary. If he flew down the hallways, running at least 3 times his current speed, he could probably finish the task a lot faster. But for one thing, he wasn't too sure the papers would remain on the bulletin board; running at high speeds tended to rip papers off walls, let alone through flimsy thumbtacks. Then there was the fact that he probably wouldn't be able to maintain a specific speed. His powers were mainly under control when he needed to do normal activities but when it came to actually using them, they tended to rebel.
Each flyer in his hands were identical, with a big notice for band tryouts. He wasn't sure if anyone else in the school was interested in being in a rock band, but there had to be someone interested in singing for one or playing guitar, right?
He was so engrossed in what he was doing that at first he did not notice Josh and Theresa, bobbing his head as the song reached the chorus. When he finally lifted his head and saw the two, he gave a nod in their direction as his way of a greeting as he pinned another flyer up.

Josh stood quietly as he waited for Thressa's reply, as he was about to walk away and get to class he realized his locker was on the fritz again.
Josh grabbed his books as they fell out of his locker. He had locked his powers in and he was feeling fine so he had no clue what the hell his problem was. Josh looked as he realized another fader had just walked by and she was crying. If she had the same sub power Josh did it was more then likely it was her that had unlocked his connection.
As he looked down the hall after her he saw things falling out of every locker she passed. Josh gave a small smile as he knew everyone had days like that. Odd things were always happening from others powers, and after four years at this school Josh was okay with it.
As he looked over he saw Tristan hanging flyers. Josh gave a nod back with a small smile. "Hey Tristan. What are the flyers for?" he asked wondering if anything cool was going on. Josh was always up for partys, social events, dances, whatever. Some people wouldn't find him as the fun type, but he was. His close friends knew that though.

Tristan added a couple more flyers to the board just to be safe then began making his way down the hall once again. That was the problem with listening to music at the volumes Tristan enjoyed them at. I've got a wicked demon/His hunger never fades/I've got an empty feeling/I won't be home today. He suddenly stopped, lifting his head finally as a girl went by in tears, and books began spilling out of lockers left and right.
Tristan quickly side stepped a couple as they skidded to a halt where his feet had been mere seconds before. He turned toward Josh, fully aware that it could have been him, as Josh seemed to struggle with his own books, but he was definitely sure it had been the girl.
His feet stayed rooted to the ground where he was before he realized that Josh's mouth was moving, but he couldn't hear a word of what he was saying. Tristan lifted the hand holding the papers to his right ear and lifted his headphone off, freeing one ear. "Huh? Sorry, the music was too loud."
If Josh repeated himself, Tristan would grin, a slight hint of laughter in his tone as he glanced down at the flyers in his hand. "Sorry man, not what you think. Just trying to get a band together." He handed a flyer to Josh, just to show that it was an advert for a potential band.
"You wouldn't happen to know anyone who sings...or plays bass would you?" He reached into his pocket and turned the music down a bit so he could hear Josh.

Josh gave a half smile to Tristan before he quickly turned to his locker and threw the books at it, using his sub power the books went through his locker and landed with a thud. He knew it would be a mess later, but ignored the fact. He sighed as others picked up their books and papers and tried to organize things back up.
Odder things had happend, as Josh could remember at least. The year before he had spent hours doing a research paper only to have it ruined by an aquakinetic. That had been the first time Josh took someones lack on control out on that person. Josh was understanding for the most part, but after hours and hours of work he couldn't help but be upset.
Josh's dad use to play the bass, but Josh had never learned. He plays the drums farely well however. "Nope. Inless you want a girl singer, if that is the case I think I might know a few people." Josh had remembered True saying she sings...but that may of been followed with the words very badly. Same with Addison. Or was it Mai, he just couldn't remember. That new girl Laila sung...if he wasn't mistaken...but he very well could of been. He only kept track of people who stayed a part of his life."What do you play?" Josh wondered out loud.

Theresa has completely spaced out. It happened sometimes. Actually, it happened a lot with her. She was snapped out of her thoughts by her locker suddenly vomiting on her shoes. She ignored when she noticed someone knew had shown up and that the two boys were having a detailed conversation she was probably supposed to be part of.
Instead of saying anything right off and proving just how much of an idiot she was sometimes, Theresa waited, listening to the other two boys’ conversation to figure out what had gone on. Maybe they would just think she was quiet. As if anything could be farther from the truth. Something about a band. All right, Tristan was trying to get a band together. That made sense. Now that she knew they were talking about, she was happy to jump back into the conversation.
"You wouldn't happen to know anyone who sings...or plays bass would you?"
“Oh, my sister sings! Oh wait, she’s twenty one.” Theresa’s cheeks grew warm. “Never mind, forget I ever said anything.” She bent over to pick up the contents of her locker, feeling a little idiotic. “I can’t believe I said that…” Theresa muttered under her breath, making sure that neither of the other boys could hear her.
"Nope. Unless you want a girl singer, if that is the case I think I might know a few people… What do you play?"
Standing up and shoving the rest of her junk into the small metal rectangle. “I’m sure there are plenty of people around who would be willing to be in a band. This is High school, right?”

Tristan dismissed the scenario with the girl as things momentarily got back to normal, as normal as they could get around here. He blinked as Josh mentioned the possibility of having a girl as a lead singer, and nodded. "Singers could go either way right now, I don't really have a set voice in mind. It'll be harder to find a singer if I limit myself, so once I find one, I'll probably just try and get the singer and the band on the same frequency. I'm open to female singers, if I like their voice."
He smiled as Theresa mentioned her sister singing, which slowly broadened into a grin. "Yeah, I imagine that would be a problem. I don't know many 21 year olds who want to hang out with high school kids." He lowered his arms at his sides and thought about it for a moment, "You don't sing at all yourself?" he asked Theresa. He waited a few moments for her response.
Tristan turned back to Josh, going back and forth in the 3 way conversation as Josh asked which instrument he played. "Ah, I play both guitar and drums. I can go either way if we're missing a guitarist or drummer, it's no big to me."
At Theresa's last comment, Tristan nodded again. "True. But it won't happen unless I get the word out first, right?" he said, raising the flyers in his hands in a type of gesture, responding with a smile.

Josh nodded towards Tristan and smiled at Theresa. "So are you the only one in the band so far?" he asked as he looked around the halls. Everyone was starting into their classes. He squinted as a loud pounding bell rung loudly through the halls. They were late. Once again he didn't care though. He could turn invisable and sneak into his control class with out a problem. He wouldn't even have to use the door thanks to his sub power.
Josh smiled lightly "Thats cool. I play the drums...I'm okay." he said nodding. he had been good at one point but after a year of not playing at all he wasn't sure how he would sound. He remembered how to play, but hadn't wanted to in a while.
Josh leaned up against his locker as the girl he liked finally made her way into class. She gave him a smile as always and walked away. He sighed quietly, and hoped that Threasa and Tristan didn't realize he was stairing and had a big stupid grin on his face. He didn't know why he cared so much. It wasn't like everyone in the whole school didn't know they liked each other.
Josh put his attention back on tristan as he talked about the band. Josh wondered about the name they would pick.

Tristan didn't seem to notice the fact that he was late for his history class, nor did he seem to care. It seemed as though he really didn't care about his school work except when it came to his powers, yet somehow he still managed to slide in classes he didn't care about with passing grades. It probably helped when he could simply catch up on a month's worth of reading and studying in less than 10 seconds.
He nodded at Josh's question as he replied, "Yeah unfortunately. But I'm not too worried about it. It'll happen."
His eyes seemed to brighten slightly as Josh mentioned he could play drums. "Really? That's sick bro. Would you have any interest in joining the band? Okay is really better than nothing at all."
Tristan glanced away from Josh for a moment, following Josh's eyes as they seemed to travel away toward something else. He spotted a girl further down the hall and slowly began to grin, but pretended he hadn't looked and pretended he didn't notice as Josh turned his attention back to Tristan. Better to keep his thoughts to himself.
"What do you say man?" Tristan asked, once again referring to joining the band.

Josh thought about how awesome being in a band would be. He probably wouldn't have too much of a life with football and a band. But he had never been in a band before, and with a little practice on the drums he would sound great. He nodded slightly "Yeah that would be cool." He said calmly. After all football season was now over. he hated that his last game had been in the high school playoffs and they had lost...he wasn't sure if he wanted to do this in college. He was waiting to see who he got callbacks from. Florida state, Oklahoma State and Maryland university was looking at him. He wondered where life would take him, but tried to focus back on the band.
He wondered how the band would work out but he was happy to agree to it. After all Tristan was pretty cool, and who knows being in a band may impress Felicity, even thought he doubted it. But it would give Josh something to do and would probably be fun even. "who else are you gonna ask?" he asked wondering who he may end up in a band with.

Tristan appeared aloof as he waited for Josh's response. He would really have liked for Josh to join the band but would understand if Josh wasn't interested. When Josh finally answered however, the calm and aloof act completely disappeared. "Really? Great!" It seemed as though music was the only thing that ever really got Tristan excited anymore. He'd left football behind the day his powers manifested, not only because it was a lot less interesting when you had to run at aless than half your maximum capability just so everyone else could keep up, but he couldn't handle the emotions and memories that came with his old ball playing days.
"We should practice later, give it a shot and see where we're at before we get anyone else in so we'll be on the same page maybe?" Tristan knew that Josh was more sreious about school than he was, so it honestly came out as a question. He didn't know if Josh had tests or other things to study for. In Tristan's mind however, school was largely unimportant since he didn't really think he needed much of an education to become a professional musician, just talent.
At Josh's last question Tristan shrugged nonchalantly. "I'm not really sure who might be good for anything else, I can't really remember off the top of my head right now. I just think if I'm playing guitar, then we need a vocalist, a bass guitar player, and another guitar to play harmony."
